Category Head - Apparel

About the Job


You will be responsible for developing and executing a profitable, customer-focused product and merchandising strategy for your product category. You act as a brand champion and build a team that is customer-focused, innovative, fast and team-oriented in their work. You should have an interest in eCommerce and an insatiable desire to contribute to a young, energetic and fast growing brand that provides the best product experience to customers.


Role & Responsibilities

  • Manage the success of the category by driving the top line and bottom line performance of the brand 
  • Establish long-term strategies and annual/seasonal financial plans and identify growth opportunities. 
  • Collaborate with the Design team to agree on the season’s look and product direction. 
  • Ensure effective Sourcing strategies in compliance with the company’s legal standards, ensure effective vendor management & development to ensure cost, quality and delivery time metrics as defined by the company are met. 
  • Use quantitative and qualitative customer insights to drive a sound product strategy.
  • Lead cross-functional team members to develop key concepts and promotional strategies to ensure that the collection is commercially viable and provides an exciting online and store customer experience. 
  • Build an assortment plan that meets online and store needs and then deliver a single detailed assortment to design. 
  • Develop and execute a seasonal calendar; manage the team calendar and lead the weekly cross-functional team meeting. 
  • Management of final investment plan and OTB based on business analysis
  • Business review and product recapping to understand new opportunities and current performance
  • Approve fits/ size specs etc and ensure product execution meets the design aesthetic as well as commercially acceptable quality standards. 
  • Own key metrics like Category Contribution %, Gross Margin, Sell-through, QA rejection rate and On-time delivery. 
  • Liaison with Marketing and Design teams to develop seasonal online/ in-store campaigns. 
  • Communicate seasonal strategies to key functional areas to focus team towards a common goal. 
  • Actively listen and work with other department members to ensure that innovative ideas are surfaced and acted upon, and that the team feels ownership in the business.  


Desired Experience and Skills

Education : MBA / Masters in Retail Management
Years of Experience : 8 - 10 years
 
Should have :

  • 7-10 years of merchandising experience. 
  • At least 2 years of category management experience especially in women’s western wear.
  • Formulates long-term strategies and implements short-term tactical plans that are cost-effective, efficient and realistic. 
  • Possesses a clear understanding of retail financial and merchandising measurements and how to impact them. 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the brand aesthetic, target customer and of product trends. 
  • Excellent experience in sourcing strategies and active vendor base especially in women’s western wear.
  • Experience with customer research, focus groups, analysis, surveys, etc.
  • Demonstrates broad leadership capabilities across multiple functions and teams. 
  • Demonstrates negotiation skills that secure beneficial outcomes. 
  • Demonstrates smart risk-taking in business and product strategies 
  • Possesses strong presentation, listening, verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Analyzes a problem skillfully, formulates a logical rationale for the decision and takes action. 
  • Sets standard for and leads a team environment that promotes collaboration and high performance. 
  • Delegates responsibility and decision-making appropriately. 
  • Possesses knowledge of production processes.
